Henry's Last Day

***1/2

Henry's had it. He stands there in his p-jams with the electric toaster in his hand. The bath is run. It's all planned - into the water with Henry and deadly (switched on) household appliance and SIZZLE!!! Bye bye, H.

As a DIY suicide manual, filmed in five mins, this is a money back affair, or rather a don't-do-this-at-home cock up comedy of short wires and lively initiative.

The toaster won't stretch to the bath. Henry finds an extension. Still too short. For a man so depressed with life, he uses oodles of energy and looks as if he is quite enjoying the mechanics of his own demise.

Writer/director Alan Bruce has done an excellent job. The only weakness is the ending, which is too obvious. Some might call it cliche, others a slip up.

Sean Mayne, as Henry, is frightfully nice and wouldn't hurt a fly. Let alone himself.
